Laya Healthcare turned to Berkley Group for digital transformation hiring, resourcing a four-year programme that reshaped how one of Ireland’s largest health insurers serves more than 700,000 members. From a Head of AI to full delivery, infrastructure and security teams, Berkley contributed to building the workforce capability behind the transformation, continuing a partnership that began in 2008.
The challenge: a long-term AI and digital strategy
Laya identified that its existing digital ecosystem was creating operational friction across the
customer journey. To support growth, improve customer experience and modernise internal
operations, the organisation committed to an end-to-end digital and infrastructure
transformation, with a long-term AI strategy at its core.
Our phased workforce solution
Phase 1, AI leadership. We identified, secured and placed a Head of AI to define the
transformation strategy and build an AI roadmap aligned to the business.
Phase 2, the digital transformation team. We scaled specialist delivery teams at pace: AI Architects, Data Engineers, front-end, back-end and full-stack software engineers, business analysts and project managers.
Phase 3, infrastructure and security. We placed a Head of IT Infrastructure & Operations, alongside Cyber Security Architects, Cloud Managers, Systems Administrators and Network Engineers.
The business impact
The programme was delivered over four years, on time and within scope. It reduced operational costs, improved customer service efficiency by automating call-centre workflows and left Laya with a future-ready, AI-enabled technology platform.
